In the last 15 years, autism has exploded nearly 4000% globally. The number of its victims now exceed AIDS, cancer, & diabetes combined. The Fuzz Foundation's principle is that no stone should be unturned in seeking the cause and cure of this world-wide tragedy.

The Fuzz Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to seeking causal factors and effective treatments for the rapidly increasing epidemic of autism. To date, research has taken a failing path in finding the answers to why this is happening.

Current research suggests a genetic susceptibility to environmental factors such as exposure to lead, mercury, and measles virus. Testosterone is an area of interest as autism affects 4 times as many boys as it does girls. It also has been demonstrated to exacerbate the toxicity of certain elements.

About Autism

Autism typically manifests itself between the ages of 18 months to 3 years in children who develop normally until the point that regression begins. Changes in repetitive motions & behaviors, loss of speech and eye contact, inability to comprehend information, sensory issues, and loss of affection previously expressed are but some of the initial occurrences noticed by parents as the first signs that could lead to an autism diagnosis.

Autism is a complex neurobiological brain-body disorder that typically lasts throughout a person's lifetime.

Typically, parents first become concerned when they notice that their toddler does not begin to talk, loses ability to talk,  or does not respond and interact like other children of the same age. Approximately 1 in 166 individuals is diagnosed with autism, making it more common than pediatric cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined. It occurs in-all racial, ethnic, and social groups and is four times more likely to strike boys than girls. Autism impairs a person's ability to communicate and relate to others. The severity of autism varies. Some individuals need assistance in almost all aspects of their daily lives, while others are able to function at a very high level and can even attend school in a regular classroom.

There are no effective drug treatments to date. Medications used only serve as chemical restraint that affect cognition and risk other health problems such as obesity and heart conditions. Currently, the most effective treatments have been found in changes in diet as well as the use of certain supplements and other alternate methods. Success stories have been found with the use of hyperbaric oxygen and using mild and closely monitored chelation.

Education is key. People with autism can learn and can be helped to lead productive lives. There are many approaches, most of which must be tailored to the individual's needs. Some therapies used are Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), PECS, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, and Sensory Integration. Regardless of how you heal their body, the person with autism must be taught effectively.

Autism does not only affect children. They don't grow out of it. They grow up and can be expected to live a normal lifespan. Many adults live with it and while some are independent, many are in need of services and constant care.
